Metropolitan Lifestyle

The Metropolitan museum of art is Home to art from all over the world but the most interesting to me is their Egyptian wing. With an actual tomb placed inside the museum the space is beautifully built and it’s truly an amazing experience to visit. Everything from Egyptian culture inspires me from the gold and jewel tones to the silhouettes and textures.
The Egyptian materials are what stuck out to me during my recent visit, the use of embellishment, the materials, the cotton, and silks. All used so beautifully and perfect. Their use of pelts and animal skin may not be proven in their hieroglyphics but you can see the use in few of their designs, which really stuck out to me.
This week I focused on menswear. I took literal inspiration from my Egyptian inspiration, as well as inspiration from sportswear and using more casual silhouettes that I would find myself wearing. I wanted to make something for myself something that I would actually wear if I could produce it.

Week 1-5

Away from the lights and buildings of Manhattan, Brooklyn feels more like home. It’s comforting to see the sunset and know that in the skyline my city is waiting for me to come back home. Colors were taken from colors of the sunset and then a candid photo of myself walking to my friends’ apartment a few blocks away from where the picture was taken.
I was exhausted, just gotten off a nine hour shift, and then a twelve hour the night before with very little sleep between with homework and regular stress of life. I had a mix of emotions going through me, wanting to get home, it was too hot and I was wearing a leather shirt, bad idea.
Even when we hate how we look and our situations and the world around us in the moment, it can really take your breath away to stop and look around me. I’m so thankful my friend took this photo as to show me what I was stomping away from around me, a beautiful color pallet among other things.

Brooklyn makes for an amazing place to buy fruits and vegetables. Aside from the freshness and cheap prices, that make any poor college student cry in joy, the market also makes for a great place of inspiration. The colors of the produce and fruits always stick with me hours after the shopping trip.

Brooklyn Queens Brooklyn
I didn’t get the chance to make it out of my environment much this past week so I decided to discover and embrace the environment around me: Brooklyn.
Dusk in the city is what really made me stop and appreciate my surroundings. The way light would hit the objects around me and then the objects that made up Brooklyn and how different they were from Manhattan.
Next, thanks to the shuttle bus to queens, I looked into the PS1 museum. How the modern art and architecture inspired me and the tons of people around me.

Lastly, I was inspired by the night life that followed and the shapes and silhouettes that I found in the evenings.
New kind of post-Inspired.
Figure-ing out this blog.
