Looking into Fashion History


10’s +Paul Poiret- Attention to shoulders and empire waist dresses, a sharp turn from the corsets of the last century.

20’s +CoCo Chanel- Brought menswear to womeswear and became popular the flapper, fridge, shorter skirts and Hollywood glamour.

30’s +Madeleine Vionnet- made the bias cut and made looks more structured and minimal after effect of the great depression.

40’s +Christian Dior- The new look was created to counter the minimal look of the depression.

50’s + Cristobal Balenciaga- The housewife was the icon, high-waisted skirts, heart-shape buntlines and overall feminine overtones was the theme.

60’s + Yves Saint Laurent- The Anti housewife era, the look was all flower power and extreme fashion.

70’s + Halston- Capitalized the 70’s Glam look that became so popular. Disco and Three piece suits became in fashion.

80’s +Dolce and Gabanna- pushed by pop icon Madonna, his edgy styling translated into ready to wear and made popular the shoulder pad, bright patterns, and the power suit.

90’s +Calvin Klein Cocaine chic was the look, with other ideas involving anti-fashion and grunge.

00’s +Alexander McQueen- The millennium set the tone of the decade, with brighter colors, weird textures and bringing the club/nightlife look into ready to wear.
